It was a beautiful morning – if a bit chilly – when eight Gropers made their way to Coogee Beach for the Dale Alcock Masters State Open Water Swim.  The conditions were magnificent – calm, warmish water (about 23 degrees) and very clear.

The main championship event of 2km got underway on time at about 8.30am.  Apart from a rather “push and shove” start, the field spread out quickly and the course was very easy to identify.

Three Gropers won their respective age groups – Katy Spandler (25-29), Sally Bell (45-49) and Lesley Meaney (60-64).  Lesley Chute, Jenny Williams and Perc Edwards just missed out with second places, and Alison Farmer and Jill Woodworth came third and fifth respectively.

If you’ve never done an open water swim before, mark this one down as one to try for next year.  It’s a great event!!
